WRITTEN BY

Hi. Tell us something about Rockwell Road project.
Rockwell Road is a rock band of Latin-American graduates (three Mexican men, an Argentinian girl and an Ecuadorian girl) who share a passion for music and cycling. We have joined together to demonstrate that regardless of the circumstances, humans are capable of reaching their dreams and achieving extraordinary goals.
In 2013 we successfully completed a one-year cycling tour of 120 cities in Mexico, carrying only 2 guitars, a bass and our bicycles. We gave 370 free concerts in schools, public squares, theaters and fairs supporting causes for the Mexican youth.

You contacted us on LiveTrigger because Rockwell Road will do an incredible cycling tour, traveling throughout 21 European countries, while sharing their music everywhere (on streets, pubs, etc). Tell us something about this new way to organize a tour.
Yes, this year we want to accomplish a more ambitious plan: to be the first Rock band in the world to do a bicycle tour in over 20 European countries and the first Latin American band to play up to 50 gigs. We will be cycling more than 8,000 km. We want to spread our message of not only music and bicycles but sharing the idea that ordinary people are capable of the extraordinary.
It is difficult to organize such a demanding tour, but we have found in Livetrigger a very useful tool to facilitate our search for bands, venues and promoters.

Tell us something about your last musical production.
We did our first cycling tour performing the music of our first production. It covered all the expenses for this amazing one-year journey. After coming back to Mexico City and with a new musical experience, we realized that we had to improve the sound of our disc. So, we returned to the studio financing it via “Fondeadora”, a Crowdfunding Website where our fans gave us their support by donating money.
The Contreras brothers directed our new production. These producers have worked with important Hispanic artists such as Gloria Trevi (Universal Mexico), Danna Paola (Universal Mexico), and David Bustamante (Universal Spain).

How is being a band from Mexico City? Tell us something about Mexican musical movement? Are you connected with other bands or musical movements in Mexico or outside your country?
Generally, being an independent artist in Mexico is difficult. There are not many opportunities for new artists in an already saturated musical world. Normally, independent bands are enrolled in a kind of circuit trying to get a place on the media. Regional music (especially “La Banda”) has become a very dominant style in the musical preferences of Mexicans. Rock has lost much of its airplay; however we know rock has always been related to resistance and fighting against all odds. So we are doing our best to make our music sound loud.

What’s the best live act in your area? Tell us something about it.
First of all, it is important to understand that we live in one of the biggest cities in the world. So the musical offer is huge and varied. Talking about the best live act is relative; it depends mostly on each taste. We like some independent artists that are good friends of ours though: Juan Solo and Fiusha funk.

On Livetrigger.com you define your genre: “indie rock, pop rock, pop, latin rock”! Can you help us understand what does it mean?
As most of the bands, we try to find our own sound with catchy melodic lines and understandable lyrics. People that hear our music for the first time say that it transports them to the 80s and early 90s Latin rock. Popular bands at that time were Soda Stereo, Hombres G, Enanitos Verdes etc. Since we have been influenced by our latino roots, we know that the rock/pop we play is diferent to the one you hear in UK or the USA.

Which artists have influenced your style & sound, if any?
Well, since we are 5 members, we have a wide variety of influences. For example Cintia, our drummer, likes Led Zepellin and ACDC; Hector, bass player, likes funk music such as
Victor Wooten and salsa; Abdeel, guitarist, Kings of Lion and Counting Crows; Louny, guitarist, Paramore and Natalia Lafourcade and Oliver, the singer, Katy Perry and Calvin Harris.

Tell us something about your best and your worst memory on the road.
The hardest part of our last tour was to struggle with non-expected problems; such as get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, not having anything to eat or a place to take a shower. And the best part is to have found very nice and kind people who gave us a hand without expecting anything in return.

What do you think of Livetrigger.com? Do you think it could be a good tool to facilitate the process of booking and organizing shows? Do you have any suggestions for us?
Livetrigger was a great discover. Rockwell Road has already contacted with some musicians and venues through this platform. We just want to thank Livetrigger for giving us the opportunity to make this interview and share our story and music.
